Jonathan Young, Program Director of Advanced Personal Training and Exercise Science at Bryan University, took home two second-place trophies from the Organization of Competitive Bodybuilders’ Arizona Natural Physique Competition hosted Aug. 24, 2013, in Mesa, Ariz.

Young received his trophies after performing in the Novice Men’s Body Building competition and the Masters Age 40+ Division. The natural drug-free event is sanctioned by the Organization of Competitive Bodybuilders and is an International Federation of Physique Athletes Pro Qualifier. Competition classes include bodybuilding, figure, fitness, fitness model, and bikini.

“In my training, I used the same solid, peer-reviewed science that we teach our students, both in my workouts and healthy eating,” said Young. “The competition was a blast!  Everyone was friendly and having a great time.”

Young grew up near Niagara Falls, Canada, and has a wide diversity of competitive sports experience, including gymnastics, baseball, badminton, tennis, volleyball, indoor/outdoor track and field, marathons, 5K and 10K runs, swimming, water polo and judo. He competed in NCAA Division I cheerleading for the University of Hawaii, has been a Professional Outdoor Expedition Guide for several at-risk youth programs, taught recreation management courses, and served as a camp director for the YMCA.

“For this competition I was excited to achieve a personal benchmark body fat percentage—but I was surprised to find that the challenge wasn’t as difficult as I thought it was going to be.  I never felt like I was fasting,” added Young. ” A true highlight was discussing my training with my knowledgeable EXS staff, many of whom have completed before.  Their insight was both inspiring and valuable.”

Young received his master’s degree in exercise sports from Boise State University in Idaho. As Program Director of Advanced Personal Training and Exercise Science at Bryan University, he oversees all instructors, students and coursework in the institution’s occupational associate degree program.

Founded in 1940, Bryan University offers accredited degree and certificate programs in personal training and exercise science, healthcare informatics, e-Discovery and court reporting, with the mission of challenging the boundaries of traditional education and liberating the innate greatness in people.
